This week, we did our
final preparations for the FSA meeting that was in Billings, MT. Before our
meeting however, we got to take a trip to the Acosta office in billings to do a
cutting of some of varieties of foods they have to offer. They cook in an on sight
kitchen that is attached to their office building.
After the Acosta meeting, we went up Beartooth Pass and took
a selfie at one of the scenic rest stops and even saw some mountain goats!
The meeting at FSA was the next day so we went to our hotel
rooms and got some rest.
The meeting went great and afterward, we got to tour their
facility. It is not an exaggeration when I saw the boxes are piled all the way
up to the ceiling, and the workers move fast, real fast.
We learned a lot about the FSA operation, and how they
handle a lot of their day to day business. We toured their freezer which is -10
degrees Fahrenheit in the front and -20 degrees Fahrenheit in the back.
Needless to say no one was eager to stay in there too long.
We ended our adventure in Billings at Cream of the West, a
small cereal facility outside of Billings. The owner was pleasant enough to
share her successes as well as struggles, giving us an insight of being a small
business, in a small town. Below are some photos of their grain silos and their
product boxing line.
We ended our trip in Billings, not only learning a lot, but
feeling accomplished and relieved that we conducted a successful meeting with
FSA. As we arrive back to Bozeman, were just in time for our 4th of
July vacation!
When we got back, we had to move out of our current dorms at
Jefferson into some different ones at Langford…
We are pretty bummed about moving out of our secluded dorms
steps away from the dining hall to the other side of campus, but we embraced
the experience of a new place to live. For the first time, we have neighbors!
