Last few weeks at FSU

How time flies! Can't believe we are leaving this Wednesday. We have enjoyed our internship very much and it's gonna be hard for us to leave. We are extremely blessed to have met all those people!

It's been weeks since the last post. Rachel and I would like to share our fun time over the past few weeks with you guys.

On July 9th, our Program Coordinator Brenda Walton took us to watch a football game with her family at the Fifth Third Ballpark. I was very excited because it was my first baseball game. The game was very fun and it's a Star War themed game! We not only enjoyed the game but also got a chance to see people wearing costumes and carrying lightsabers.  At the end, we watchedan amazing fireworks show.

One of the biggest projects of this internship is to come up with our own theme meals. Rachel had her Mardi Gras theme meal on July 12 and it was a big success! The decorations were amazing and food was tasty! The beignets got lots of compliments and Jambalaya bar was very creative! People were having a great fun wearing the beads and the hats. Rachel has put a lot of thoughts and efforts into this theme meal and she did a great job!

On July 13, Rachel and I went to the Mecosta County Fair. We watched the horse show and were amazed by how creative those people are.

This elephant horse won!
This Starbucks horse was my fav!
We shared a huge funnel cake and each had the best freshly squeezed lemonade! As dietetics students, we struggled a little bit.

The next day, we had a field trip to MSU! Last week, we host the MSU interns at Ferris and this time, it's our turn to visit them. It was a great opportunity to learn how different college dining services operate and we had a fun time chatting with the MSU interns.

On July 19, I had my theme meal! My meal is Beach themed and I chose Rock Cafe Patio as my serving station. Since there is no certain food for a beach themed meal, I had an open space for creativity. After one-month effort, with all the hard work and help from the cooks, student employees, managers, Brenda, Rachel and myself, my theme meal finally came together! And it was amazing.

Right after my theme meal, we had Summer Celebration. Keep the fun rolling! The event was planned by Vicky, Rock Cafe Assistant Manager, and Rachel and I were her assistants. We helped set up the decoration and made sure that the event went smoothly. With all the fun activities (Band, Face Painting, Henna Tattoo, Balloon Artist and Corn Hole) and tasty food, we had a great time!

On Friday night, we went bowling with the student employees and on Saturday, we went to Vicky's house for a cookout!

At the end, I am so glad to have this opportunity to work as a NACUFS Intern at Ferris State University Dining Services. Over the past two months, I learnt all aspects of food service operations and learnt how to become a better manager.

I have met many nice people and built up friendship with them. It makes it hard for me to leave. But, Rachel and I gonna come back and visit them in the near future.

This internship has shaped me to a better person and it has been a great inspiration to me. I look ahead to the future of my journey with great passion.

I wish everyone the best and thank you Ferris!
