We have finished up week two and only love it here more! We are learning a ton and falling for this city more and more every day. This week was spent working on some big projects with some fun activities mixed in.
Along with our price benchmarking project that we started last week, we started working on a project with Aprille, the operations support manager for UW dining. We are exploring more efficient ways to train and on-board dining employees, as well as brainstorming ways to improve employee retention. Neither of us have ever worked on the administration side of food service, so it has been interesting to research what other schools are doing and what we could do more of.
Farmers from Wilcox Farms |
On Tuesday, farmers from Wilcox Farm, a local farm where we get all of our eggs, came to tour some of the units where their eggs are prepared. It was fun to talk to them and learn about the process of raising chickens, and then we got show them what happens to the eggs after they leave the farm!
Wednesday was our most delicious day yet. UW's primary food vendor is US Foods, so we had the opportunity to go to Food Fanatics Live, a food show US Foods puts on every year. We got to sample some tasty products and watch some live chef competitions. So fun!
This weekend we went to the annual Solstice Festival in Fremont. There was a concert series, an awesome craft market with amazing local vendors (pictured), and a naked bike parade (not pictured). Seattle continues to surprise us!
Craft market! |
The cleanest picture of the parade we have, before the naked bike riders came through :) |
We also headed down to Pike's Place on Saturday (again) and while we were eating incredible grilled cheese sandwiches from Beecher's we saw Shia LaBeouf just hanging out! We were too nervous to take a picture but take our word for it, it was him!
Can't wait to see what is in store this week!
