We are rounding out our third week here at The University of Oklahoma for the NACUFS internship. It has been a good mix of work and play.
The weather has been hot and humid here in Oklahoma with the index being at 100 or more. This has not been bad other than when we walk or bike two and from work to our apartment.
Luckily there is free filtered water to fill our water bottles with after the hot ride into work!
The OU campus has a very large assortment of places to eat at. During the summer many of them are not open but we will get to try an assortment of many of them soon. During camp crimson for the freshman. they open some of the places up for the new comers to try. I am excited to try all the food places I haven't tried yet! All the places I have eaten at so far have been awesome! Very tasty food!
Today we ate at the main cafeteria restaurant called Couch.
They served chicken and mashed potatoes and gravy. They also always have a stocked salad bar and fresh fruit! Not a bad choice for a meal.
Outside of just enjoying eating the food we are learning about the operations. We have been creating an business plan for a healthy table event. We have also being working with the Registered Dietitian to create posters for campus as well as updating policies and procedures. She is a wealth of knowledge and we are very luck to get to spend time with her! Soon we will get to work with some awesome chefs and managers to start creating or modifying recipes and then cook/preparing recipes. It will be fun to try different things out and play chef for a while. We gave our first presentation alongside the dietitian this past week about healthy portion sizes and why they are important. This went very well. We will be doing another presentation for the food service employees sometime near the end of July!.
Yesterday we had Indian tacos at the Flying Cow in the National Weather Center. The food was awesome and the weather center is amazing!
This was an interactive globe that was showing the currents over the oceans and seas. It does many other things as well!
Even got to see Dorothy! For those that remember! Very Fun!
Outside of work we had an awesome opportunity to go ride horses and meet and pet 7 of these different beautiful creatures.
