Hello from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN!

Hello! Well it's officially been one week since I arrived in Bloomington and full disclosure: I completely forgot about this blog! No fears, I will catch you all up on my week and plan better for this upcoming one!

What a BEAUTIFUL city Bloomington is! It's got that big city feel and that small town feel all in one. It seems that many people come to school at IU and then never want to leave so they move here! I don't blame them, anything and everything you need is within a 3 mile radius. It's pretty incredible.

This is me on Day 1 of the internship! As you can tell, I was really excited.

Week 1 of my internship has been amazing. I'm learning so much about food service at the university level. I've attended recipe testings for the new menus coming in the fall, attended administrative meetings, and attended student orientations to talk with incoming freshman & their parents about the meal plans here. It really has been quite an eventful week!

This was a recipe tasting for new Korean dishes. Traveler's (one of the concepts at the Bookmarket) is adding a Korean menu for the Fall semester. Both were delicious!

Because of my 10+ years experience in management, I'm really excited to work with IU's administrative team on their Hire Me! program. For those of you who don't know, IU is home to over 40,000 students and there are over 25 places on campus to get a meal! That calls for hundreds of student employees to help run the cafe's, food courts, and dining halls. So not only will we be attending student orientations as a resource for students/parents who have questions but it is a great opportunity to recruit new staff!

Fridays in Bloomington are Food Truck Friday! Thanks to The Gravy Train for a tasty meal! Elote (Mexican street corn) and a pork belly Cuban.

I don't want to overwhelm you all with too much in my first post, so I promise I will do a better job of posting throughout the week. But...I will leave you with some pictures of my exploration of Bloomington this weekend!

Bloomington Farmer's Market. Every Saturday morning! A little overwhelming but I will definitely be going back next week!

I went to a comedy show at The Comedy Attic last night. This was after the show walking around the square.

I took this picture this morning! Griffy Lake in Bloomington offers kayak rentals for only $8 an hour! I know how I'll be spending my Sunday mornings from now on! It was very peaceful.

Until next time!

  1. Love that you have the kayaking opportunity - it is a very restful experience - especially early in the morning or at sunset. As long as the bugs aren't too bad!
